The Blessings That Abound

By: David F. Reagan

Search LearntheBible.org

Attend, my heart; take notice of

The blessings that abound.

Observe your life; survey your soul;

Look sharply all around.

In selfish times our rebel hearts,

Can only see our pain.

But broken hearts submit to God,

And glory in their gain.

A tear we shed for loved ones,

Who live so far away;

A toddler's laugh; a silent night;

A bright and cheery day.

A moment when we quietly pause,

And feel the touch of God;

The time we pick the pieces up,

And on for Him we trod.

The air we breathe; a hawk in flight;

A walk among the trees;

The smell of fresh-baked pumpkin pie;

A strong, cool summer breeze.

A conversation with a friend,

When deep speaks unto deep;

A field where you have plowed and sown,

But now begin to reap.

The knowing look from wife or child,

That says, I understand;

The joy that swells when your own son,

Becomes a goodly man.

For all these gifts and millions more,

With grateful hearts we sing,

Unto the Giver of all good;

Unto the King of kings.

Lord, take our focus off ourselves,

And off our meager woes.

The pains and trials that we face,

Are not our real foes.

The enemy that dwells within:

A bleak, unthankful heart--

Let not this beast abide in me,

Or, make haste and depart.

I now resolve to lift my eyes,

To lofty, nobler things;

To meditate upon my God,

And blessings that He brings.

The wonders of creation;

The miracle of love;

The gift of God's salvation,

Bestowed from heav'n above.
