Aaronites
are the descendants of Aaron and therefore priests. The name is used
only twice in the Bible. In 1Chronicles 12:27, they make up 3700
fighting men who, under the leadership of Jehoiada the father of Benaiah,
joined David at Hebron. Later, in 1Chronicles 27:17, their chief is
Zadok who had been “a young man mighty of valour” (1Chroniches 12:28).
They clearly made up an important fighting force in the time of David.
