With Such Sacrifices God Is Pleased (Hebrews 13:16)

Introductory Thoughts

The word of God makes things perfectly clear that God does not need anything from man. Yet, we see that God finds great delight in receiving those sacrifices from His creation. The apostle Paul plainly declared this truth to the Philippian believers when he said that their sacrifice was “an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God” (Philippians 4:18). He rehearsed the same truth to Hebrew believers when he said, “But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased” (Hebrews 13:16). The sacrifices of men demonstrate a will that chooses to give something to God. Why? Because love constrains them to do so.

Devotional Thoughts

  • (For children): Sacrificing to God includes praise and thanksgiving (Hebrews 13:15; Psalm 107:21-22). Look around the room. Can you thank God for at least ten things He has given you? Can you praise Him with a song (Psalm 69:30) like David did?
  • (For everyone): How does it make you feel to know that you can please God with your sacrifices? How should this knowledge compel you to look for opportunities to give God that which He desires?
  • What kind of sacrifices do you offer unto the Lord on a daily basis? Do those sacrifices please God? Do those sacrifices demonstrate your love for Him?

Prayer Thoughts

  • Thank God for the opportunity to please Him.
  • Ask the Lord to find your sacrifices acceptable and wellpleasing.
