PASSAGE:
Zechariah 1:12-21
COMMENT:
After seventy years of judgment on Israel, God is ready to speak good
and comfortable words to the nation. The horns that have scattered
them will soon be cut off.
WHAT
DOES IT SAY?
1. The
Lord answered the angel with _________ words and _______________ words.
2. The
Lord has returned to Jerusalem with ____________ and His __________
shall be built in it.
3. The “LORD
shall yet __________ Zion, and shall yet ___________ Jerusalem.”
4. Zechariah
lifted up his eyes and saw four __________..
5. Afterwards,
the Lord showed Zechariah four _____________.
WHAT
DOES IT MEAN?
1. A
single score equals twenty. How many years in
“threescore and ten?” Read 2Chronicles 36:19-21; Jeremiah 25:11-12;
29:10; Daniel 9:2. What happened during these threescore and ten
years? What is now happening at the end of this period of time?
2. Read
verses 18-19. What do the four horns represent? Why do
you think there are four of them?
3. What
do the four carpenters do with the four horns (v.20-21)? What
does this signify?
WHAT
DOES IT MEAN TO ME?
1. The
Lord says, “I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy” (v.14). Jealousy
is often considered a bad trait. What do we usually mean when we say
someone is jealous? In what way is God jealous of His people? Are
there ways in which it is good to be jealous? Explain. Look up
the word in a dictionary and see how this compares with your answers.
2. God
is sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease (v.15). In
another time, Amos complained about those who were “at ease in Zion” (6:1),
who would “lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their
couches” (6:4). Isaiah identifies women at ease as careless ones
(32:11).
Another interesting verse to read is Jeremiah 48:11. What is God
talking about with these accusations? What is it that displeases
Him? How are people guilty of being at ease today? What should
we avoid in our own lives?
