Introduction: The importance of the suffering Saviour. J. Frank Norris concerning Isaiah 53: the greatest chapter, the highest mountain peak of the whole Bible. This chapter should be memorized by all.

 

       I. His Life (53:1-2) (Isaiah 7:14; 9:6)


              A. A Tender Plant (Matthew 11:28-30; 12:18-20) (Isaiah 42:1-3,6; 49:6)

              B. A Revived Root (Isaiah 11:1-2, 10)


     
 II. His Death (53:2-8)

 
              A. Its Ugliness (v. 2-3; 52:14)

              B. Its Purpose (v. 4-6; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Isaiah 49:7; 50:6)

              C. Its Obedience (v. 7; Philippians 2:5-8; Hebrews 5:8)

              D. Its Wickedness (v. 8; Galatians 3:13)
                       1. Without due process

                       2. For the transgressions of others (1 Peter 2:23)

 

       III. His Burial (53:9)

 
              A. With the Wicked- crucified between thieves (Luke 23:32-33)

              B. With the Rich- buried in a rich man's tomb (Matthew 27:57-60)


     
 IV. His Resurrection (53:10-11)

 
              A. His Days Prolonged (v. 10; Isaiah 9:6-7)

              B. His Purpose Finished (v. 11; Isaiah 42:1)
 

       V. His Reign (53:12)


              A. His Portion (He comes a second time in glory- Isaiah 49:3)

              B. His Payment (Isaiah 52:14-15)

Conclusion: Christ died for your sins. Have you received His salvation? Do you glory in the Cross? (Galatians 6:14)
