Joy and the Holy Ghost

Joy and the Holy Ghost - Acts 13:52

Our passage provides yet another connection to joy; this time it is the Holy Ghost. We find that the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Ghost. The Bible further demon-strates this connection in the description of the spiritual kingdom of God by saying that the kingdom is not physical things, but is "righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost"  (Romans 14:17). Galatians 5:22 defines the fruit of the Spirit as "love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness" and "faith." The connection occurs again in 1 Thessalonians 1:6 where the Bible says that the people of God received the word "with joy of the Holy Ghost." Obviously, the more the Holy Ghost has control of our lives, the more we will experience the joy that the Lord has for us.

  • (For smaller children) The Holy Ghost is God. We can't see Him, but He comes to live inside of us when we get saved. He guides us, teaches us, and helps us remember God's word. Learn all the Bible verses you can because obeying brings joy.
  • Does the Holy Spirit have full access to your life? Are you surrendered to the Lord? Have you given yourself wholly to Him?
  • Have you lost your joy? If so, what do you think is lacking? What does your lack of joy have to do with the Holy Ghost? Do you allow the Lord to have as much of you as He desires?

  • Ask the Lord to guide you into His joy.
  • Ask the Lord to consecrate you more to Himself by the inner workings of His Spirit.
