Spirit Baptism

XI.                    SPIRIT BAPTISM

 

A.       The Baptism With the Holy Ghost

 

1.   Other names (Acts 1:4-5; 2:33)

2.   Prophesied in the gospels (Matthew 3:11; Mark 1:8; Luke 3:16; John 1:33)

3.   Fulfilled as an event (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4; 2:33)

4.   Marks the coming of the Comforter (John 14:26; 15:26; 16:7; Acts 2:33)

5.   Begins the indwelling of every believer (John 14:16-17; Romans 8:9)

6.   An event with three addendums

a.         Jewish believers (Acts 2:38)

b.        Samaritan believers (Acts 8:14-17)

c.         Gentile believers (Acts 10:44-48)

d.        Disciples of John (Acts 19:1-7)

 

B.        The Baptism by the Spirit (1Corinthians 12:13)

 

1.   Called the promise of the Spirit (Galatians 3:14)

2.   Administered by the Spirit (1Corinthians 12:13)

3.   Places the believer into Jesus Christ (Romans 6:3-4; Galatians 3:27; Ephesians 5:30)

4.   Occurs to all believers at the point of salvation (1Corinthians 12:13; Galatians 3:14)

5.   NOTE: We would not know about this baptism except for the fact that God tells of it in the Bible
