Introduction: Clothed with humility (1Peter 3:3-4); as pride is the primary and base sin (1Timothy 3:6), so humility can be seen as the primary and base virtue (Proverbs 15:33).

I.     THE ATTITUDE OF HUMILITY; “humbleness of mind” (Colossians 3:12)

A.    Toward Others (1Timothy 5:1-2)

1.    Unto the elder

2.    To one another

B.    Toward God – Josiah (2Kings 22:19)

1.    Under God

2.    Under His mighty hand

II.    THE IMPORTANCE OF HUMILITY

A.    Necessary for Salvation (Matthew 18:1-4; Luke 18:9-14)

B.    Necessary for Service (Matthew 23:11-12; Acts 20:19)

C.    Necessary for Revival (2Chronicles 7:14; Isaiah 57:15)

D.    Necessary for Christlikeness (Philippians 2:5-8; Matthew 20:25-28)

III.   THE REWARDS OF HUMILITY

A.    The Gift of Grace (1Peter 5:5; James 4:5-6)

B.    The Exaltation of God (1Peter 5:6; James 4:10; Proverbs 18:12)

C.    The Care of the Father (1Peter 5:7; Psalm 34:15)

Conclusion: Psalm 10:4 – “The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.” What has pride done to destroy your life and your relationship with God? Learn the lesson of Luke 14:7-11.
