The Abomination of Desolation

Matthew 24:15-21

Introduction:

  • Abomination – that which is hateful and disgusting, especially to God
  • Desolation – the state of being uninhabited, empty

 

I.           WHAT IS IT?

 

A.        The Desecration of the Jewish Temple (Daniel 11:31; 12:11)

 

B.        The Exaltation of the Antichrist as God (2Thessalonians 2:3-4)

 

II.   WHEN IS IT?

 

A.        After the Catching Away of the Saints (1Thessalonians 4:16-17)

 

B.        In the Middle of the Seven Year Tribulation (Daniel 9:27)

 

C.        At the Beginning of the Great Tribulation (Matthew 24:21)

 

III.        WHAT CAUSES IT?

 

A.        Satan’s Desire to be God (Isaiah 14:12-15)

 

B.        Pride: the Primary Sin (1Timothy 3:6)

 

IV.       WHO WORSHIPS IT?

 

A.        Those Who Take the Mark of the Beast (Revelation 13:1-8)

 

B.        Those Who Reject the Gospel Before the Rapture (2Thessalonians 2:8-12)

 

V.        WHAT SPIRIT DOES IT HAVE?

 

A.        The Spirit of Rebellion (Genesis 3:4-5)

 

B.        The Spirit of Idolatry (1John 5:21)

 

Conclusion:

  • Have you caught the spirit of antichrist? Rebellion? Pride?
  • Do you live as if the time is short to give yourself for Christ?
  • Are you ready for catching away of the saved?
