To and Fro

Q: How fast is to and fro? Is it instantaneous or is it hours long when the devil went to and fro upon the earth in Job chapter one? Was it in seconds or did it take all day?

A: Job 1:7 states, "And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it."

I believe the idea was of his continual moving up and down searching the earth for opportunities to do his work.

1Peter 5:8 tells us, "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour."

The idea is one of continual motion; of constant searching for a chance to hinder the work of God. There is no reference to speed and there is no time unit involved. "To and fro" refers to a constant moving all over the face of the earth.

Till He comes,

Pastor David Reagan
