A: Men
are told that they should not have long hair in 1Corinthians 11:14,
which states, "Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a
man have
long hair, it is a shame unto him?" The verse does not say how long
is
too long. However, the passage is contrasting the long hair of women
with
the short hair of men. Certainly, men should have their hair short enough
to distinguish them from a woman's hair style. (I have to admit that
this
is more difficult in an age when women are wearing their hair very
short.) The hair of a woman is also to be a covering (1Corinthians
11:15). Evidently, a man's hair is not given as a covering. For this
reason, I personally avoid any hair style that leaves the hair over the
tops of the ears. However, that is my understanding of the passage and
not a strict interpretation.
Earrings are even harder because the Bible does not make a direct
statement. I do not wear them because of their connection with so many
things. The fashion has been led by homosexuals and those who desire
to
rebel against God. I do not want to take any part with this group of
people. They were also considered the attire of women for many years.
I
still consider them to be women's adornment and will not wear them.
