The Day the Philistines Gave Glory to God

Text: 1Samuel 6:1-9

INTRODUCTION – At times, even the world gives glory to God. Surely, the people of God ought to give Him glory.

I. They Realized the Power of God (v. 1-2; 5:1-5, 11)

A. Upon the gods (5:1-5; Exodus 12:12; 14:24-25)

B. Upon themselves (5:11; 6:1-2)

C. Through wrath (Romans 1:18)

II. They Realized the Praise of God (v. 3-5)

A. They gave Him an offering (v. 3-4)

B. They gave Him glory (v. 5)

1. Seen in God’s deliverance (Psalms 126:1-2)

2. Seen in God’s work (Nehemiah 6:15-16)

III. They Realized the Purpose of God (v. 6)

A. They realized God’s judgment

B. They realized God’s mercy

IV. They Realized the Providence of God (v. 7-9)

A. They tested the providence of God (v. 7-8)

B. They accepted the providence of God (v. 9, 12, 16; Daniel 3:28)

CONCLUSION – If the world can so proclaim the glory of God, surely we, as His people, can give Him glory.
