THE MAN WHO SINNED ROYALLY

 

 

Text:  Deuteronomy 17:14-20

INTRODUCTION: When you choose a king  (1Samuel 8:4-7, 19-22)

I.            Multiplied Horses  (Deuteronomy 17:16) (Pride of Life)

A.                 He multiplies horses  (1Kings 4:26-28)

 

B.                 He brings them from Egypt  (1Kings 10:28-29; 2Chronicles 1:16; 9:28; Isaiah 31:1)

 

C.                 God raises an adversary  (1Kings 11:14-22)

  D.                 This led to trouble

II.            Multiplied Wives  (Deuteronomy 17:17) (Lust of the Flesh)

            A.        He multiplies wives  (1Kings 11:3)   (1John 2:15-17)

 

B.                 He goes to all nations  (1Kings 11:1-2)

 

C.                 They turned his heart away  (1Kings 11:3-4)

  D.                 This led to idolatry  (1John 5:21)

III.            Multiplied Riches  (Deuteronomy 17:17)   (Lust of the Eyes)

 

A.                 He multiplies riches  (1Kings 10:14-23)

 

B.                 He declares it all vanity  (Ecclesiastes 2:1-11)

 

C.                 This led to hopelessness  (Matthew 6:19-21)

CONCLUSION: God’s wisdom was greater than that of the world’s wisest man!  His will is always best!
