Death - The Gate of Life

Introduction

We always want goodness and life. However, if this is all we get, we miss out on the miraculous blessings of death.

  1. The Death of the Seed unto Germination (John 12:23-24)
    1. 1Corinthians 15:35 But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come?
    2. Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die:
    3. And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain
    4. But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body.
  2. The Death of the Saviour unto Resurrection (John 12:23, 32-33; Revelation 1:18)
    1. John 10:17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again
    2. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
  3. The Death of Sinner unto Salvation (John 12:25)
    1. Mark 8:35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.
    2. 36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
    3. Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
    4. Philippians 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
    5. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
    6. That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth
    7. And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
  4. The Death of the Self unto Sanctification (John 12:26; Romans 8:13; Galatians 2:20)
    1. Romans 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
    2. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
    3. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
    4. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
    5. What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid
    6. Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
    7. 2Corinthians 4:10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.
    8. Colossians 3:3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory
    9. 2Timothy 2:11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:
  5. The Death of the Saints unto Glorification (John 12:17-19)
    1. Psalm 116:15 Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.
    2. 1Corinthians 15:36 Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die:
    3.  And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain
    4. But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body.
    5. 1Corinthians 15:51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
    6. In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
    7. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality
    8. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
    9. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
    10. The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
    11. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ

Conclusion

Have you died? Would you be willing to die to sin? To self?
