The Righteousness of God

INTRODUCTION: What is the righteousness of God? As with many truths in scripture, it has meaning beyond the obvious. And, as with the truth of God’s word, its meaning is eternally important and has the power to save and to sanctify us.

  1. THE PERFECT RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD (Ezra 9:15)
    1. Righteous in His Praise
      1. Psalm 48:10 According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness.
      2. Psalm 50:6 And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah.
    2. Righteous in His Works
      1. Psalm 71:19 Thy righteousness also, O God, is very high, who hast done great things: O God, who is like unto thee!
      2. Daniel 9:14 Therefore hath the LORD watched upon the evil, and brought it upon us: for the LORD our God is righteous in all his works which he doeth: for we obeyed not his voice.
    3. Righteous in His Judgment (Psalm 7:9)
    4. Righteous in His Mercy (Psalm 116:5)
    5. Righteous in His Son (Luke 23:47)
  2. THE IMPUTED RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD
    1. Necessity of Imputed Righteousness (Romans 10:1-4)
    2. Examples of Imputed Righteousness (Romans 4:1-8)
    3. Imputed Righteousness in Christ (1 Corinthians 1:30)
      1. Manifest (Romans 3:21-26)
      2. Desired (Philippians 3:8-9)
      3. Precious (2 Peter 1:1)
  3. THE PERFECTING RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD
    1. Based on Imputed Righteousness (Ephesians 4:22-32)
    2. Instructed by the Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16)
    3. Taught by the Grace of God (Titus 2:11-12)
    4. Dependent on the Yielding of Man (Romans 6:13)

CONCLUSION: We must have the righteousness of God. First, it must be imputed through Jesus Christ. Then, it must work its way out in our daily lives.
