The Call of Joshua

INTRODUCTION: Many calls: to salvation; to a decision; to a ministry

 

I. God Stripped Him of His Confidence (v. 1-2a)


A. Joshua Was the Minister to Moses (Joshua 24:13)
B. Moses Was Now Dead


II. God Sent Him to Make a Conquest (v. 2-4)


A. Arise and Go Over Jordan (v. 2; Deuteronomy 1:5-8)
B. Take This People With You (v. 2)
C. Take This Land for the Lord (v. 3-4; Obadiah 17)


III. God Stilled Him With His Promises (v. 5)


A. The Promise of Victory (1 Corinthians 15:58;
2 Corinthians 2:14; Galatians 6:9)
B. The Promise of His Presence (Hebrews 13:5)

IV. God Stirred Him in His Service (v. 6-7)


A. To Be Courageous (v. 6-7; 2 Timothy 1:7)
B. To Be Obedient "observe" (v. 7)
C. To Be Steadfast "turn not" (v. 7; Proverbs 4:25-27)

V. God Strengthened Him For the Work (v. 8-9)


A. By the Power of the Word (v. 8)
B. By the Person of the Lord (v. 9 " "Have not I commanded
thee?") (John 1:16; Colossians 3:3-4; Galatians 2:20)

CONCLUSION: God is calling someone here today. Is it you? To salvation; to a decision; to surrender to a call.
