Destitute of the Truth (1 Timothy 6:3-5)

Introductory Thoughts

Men choose to be destitute of the truth. According to the scripture, the Lord “will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:4). One would think all men would want to know the truth, but this is not always the case. Unfortunately, the last days are distinctively marked by those who are “ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth” (2 Timothy 3:7). Men could know the truth if they desired to know it. Abraham’s servant profoundly stated, “Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth” (Genesis 24:27). God desires to show Himself and His truth to each and every one of us.

Devotional Thoughts

  • (For children): God's invitation to be saved is for everyone and He reaches out to all (John 3:16; John 12:32-33; 2 Peter 3:9). It is sad that most men do not want the truth (Romans 1:21, 25; Romans 3:11; 2 Timothy 3:8; 2 Timothy 4:3-4). What will you do with the truth?
  • (For everyone): Are you searching for the truth? Are you hungry for the Lord and His word? He will show you the truth. He will guide you in the way you should go. Will you hear, listen, and obey?
  • Is there any truth from the Lord that you have rejected? How has this hindered your growth? Is there a way to go back and correct your rebellion?

Prayer Thoughts

  • Thank the Lord for His faithfulness to give the truth.
  • Ask the Lord to give you a heart willing to obey the truth.
