God Hates Sin (Deuteronomy 9:18)

Introductory Thoughts

Sin angers God. It provokes Him to jealousy (1 Kings 14:22). According to Psalm 7:11, “God is angry with the wicked every day.” He “trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth” (Psalm 11:5). God loves faith and righteousness; both serve as the enemies of sin (Romans 14:23; 1 John 5:17). In the days of Noah, sin grieved the Lord so badly that the Bible says it repented God that he had made man on the earth (Genesis 6:6). Sin is so offensive to God that the Bible declares God to be “of purer eyes than to behold evil” (Habakkuk 1:13). One day, God will create an environment that excludes sin of any kind (Revelation 22:15).

Devotional Thoughts

  • (For children): God hates all sin (Psalm 5:4-5; Proverbs 6:16-19; Ephesians 5:5-6). Any sin can be forgiven, but it has to be through the blood of Christ (Colossians 1:14; 1 Peter1:18-19; 1 John 1:7; Revelation 1:5). Call upon Him today (Romans 10:9-10, 13; Acts 16:31).
  • (For everyone): Sin is exceedingly sinful in the eyes of God. How does this affect His dealings with man? How should the fact that God hates sin cause men to fear?
  • Are you saved? Should you continue to sin because you have been redeemed by the Lord? How should your love for Him cause you to hate what He hates?

Prayer Thoughts

  • Ask God to help you hate sin as He hates sin.
  • Call upon Gods forgiveness for your sins.
