Rejoice in Each Day (Ecclesiastes 11:9-10)

Introductory Thoughts

Many people fail to enjoy the present blessings by worrying about the inevitability of future difficulties. Though each time of life is certainly filled with its difficulties, it is also filled with tremendous opportunities for blessing. When young, a person ought to rejoice in his youth while keeping in mind that God will bring his deeds into judgment. When growing older, people ought to rejoice in getting married, having children, working, and serving the Lord. As one grows older, he can enjoy the benefits of each phase of life knowing that God has special blessings in store for each day. After all, why be robbed of today’s joys by worry concerning troubles and sorrows that may never come to pass? And if they do transpire, effort spent in worrying about them was useless.

Devotional Thoughts

  • (For children): Do not forget that God is always present in your life (Jeremiah 23:23-24). He truly wants each and every person to enjoy life (1 Timothy 6:17b). In order to be truly happy and content, be sure you know that the Lord approves of what you are doing (Colossians 3:17). Never forget that each of us will give an account of our lives to God (Ecclesiastes 12:14; Romans 14:12).
  • (For everyone): During His earthly ministry, the Lord used each day to its fullest. The Bible says that He increased in wisdom, in stature, and in favour with God and man (Luke 2:52). How could you learn from His example for us?
  • What have you failed to enjoy because you were worried about things that never came to pass? What concerns do you have now? What blessings will be missed because of these concerns?

Prayer Thoughts

  • Ask the Lord to keep you from worrying about the future.
  • Ask the Lord to help you rejoice in each day He gives you.
