Have
we done our best?

Dad
called Jim from work and said, “Hey Jim, you know your
brother’s birthday is coming up. I left money on my
dresser take that money and buy a bike your brother is
getting old enough for a bike of his own”. Jim went and
got the money, but came up with an idea of his own, he
would go to the junk yard and buy the parts for the bike
put it to together and then use the rest of the money
for that new baseball glove he wanted. So Jim bought
some old rusted parts painted them and put the bike
together. Some of the parts were very damaged but you
really could not see the rust after he put the paint
on. Jim took the rest of the money that he saved from
buying the cheap parts and bought his new glove.
The
morning of his brother’s party Jim’s Dad took him aside
and said, “Son are you happy with the bike?” Yes sir, I
think it will be a good bike Jim said. His Dad smiled
and said, “That’s great because I thought we would give
your brother your bike and you take this new one.”
Jim
found out that giving less then his best hurt him,
not his brother. The children of Israel will soon find
this out in the book of Malachi. Thru the book of
Nehemiah and now into the book of Malachi we have seen
God’s love and care for his people. He gave them so
many opportunities to worship, seek and serve him to
repent and be sorry for their sin. But now in the book
of Malachi we find them still not truly repenting and
turning to God. God will soon let them see how life
will be without all the help, protection and care he as
given them.
