Hell - God's Provision for Judgment

Scripture Passage: 
Isaiah 30:33

Introduction: Tophet was located in the Valley of Hinnom, south of Jerusalem. In scripture, It is a place of burning (Jeremiah 7:31), a place of abominations (Jeremiah 19:2-5) and a place of judgment (Jeremiah 19:6-7). In our text (Isaiah 30:33), it is a title for hell.

  1. THE PURPOSE OF HELL - "ordained of old"
    1. To Take Vengeance on Those Who Know Not God (2 Thessalonians 1:7-9; 2:12; Revelation 21:8)
    2. To Satisfy the Wrath of God Against Sin (John 3:16-19, 36; Romans 1:18; 5:9; Ephesians 5:6)
  2. THE PREPARATION OF HELL - "for the king it is prepared"
    1. For the King of Pride (Job 41:34)
    2. For the Devil and his Angels (Matthew 25:41)
  3. THE PROPORTION OF HELL - "he hath made it deep and large"
    1. Expanded to Include the Wicked (Psalm 9:17)
    2. Enlarged Without Bound (Isaiah 5:14; Proverbs 27:20)
  4. THE PAIN OF HELL - "fire and much wood"
    1. Eternal Torment (Luke 16:22-24, 28)
    2. Eternal Darkness (Jude 13)
    3. Eternal Separation (2 Thessalonians 1:8-9)
  5. THE POWER OF HELL - "the breath of the LORD...doth kindle it"
