Thou Shalt Have No Other Gods Before Me (Exodus 20:3)

The following is an excerpt from Soldiers in Training by Brother Daryl Coats.

"Page 11 of the 9 August 2004 Newsweek contained an interesting explanation for why ancient Greeks "traveled the 210 miles from Athens to Olympia" to watch the original Olympic games: "The Greeks thought it was a small price to pay [to be] as close to the gods as they could."

Question: Why do Americans pay billions of dollars and travel great distances to watch local, college, and professional sporting events? The world is no more a friend of grace today than it was in the days of the apostles. "Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen" (1 John 5:21)."
