Doctrine of God 0004 - Lesson 2

The doctrine of God is the key to understanding all other Bible truth. The knowledge of God is the key to salvation, to sanctification, and to service. Without God, there is nothing else. Defining Bible Words

What is your method for finding definitions of biblical words? For example, the difference between "accursed" and "cursed" and the difference between "lucre" and "money". I know that the English of the KJV is correct; but, sometimes, isn't getting to the "root" of the word necessary?

Balaam's Call to Curse Israel

Balaam is one of the strangest characters in the Bible. On one hand, he is deceitful, greedy, and disobedient and works against God and His people Israel. Yet, on the other hand, God speaks through him as a true prophet and he gives some glorious prophecies concerning the coming of Christ. In the end, he is killed after using Moabite women to seduce the Israelites and is mentioned only in evil terms in the New Testament (2 Peter 2:15; Jude 1:11; Revelation 2:14).

The Fiery Serpents

This lesson points out another great failure on the part of God’s people. In this instance, the Lord shows us that one of the most dangerous times for the people of God is the time immediately following victory. When the people fail, the Lord sends serpents among them to bite them. The only hope is an uplifted brasen serpent.

Striking the Rock

This lesson is filled with troubles and trials. The people continue to murmur against Moses and Aaron concerning a lack of water and the death of their brethren. It is also in this chapter where we find that Miriam and Aaron die and Moses rebels against the Lord. In the midst of all this, we find a wonderful picture of the Lord Jesus and His grace toward us.
